Wyre Estuary And Country Park 2020-23

'Wyre Estuary Country Park' was a local rubbish tip until it was filled in and transformed. In the summer of 2020, I visited it for the first time and had a couple of walks on different occasions in either direction alongside the River Wyre. Parking is free and ample. People obviously welcomed being able to drive somewhere for a decent walk and escape from being cooped up in the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Ample memorial seats along the side of the path. Pathways can be muddy and stoney and may not be suitable for wheelchairs.

Summer 2021 Wyre Estuary Boats

This was a nice spot. I sat here awhile and read the book I took with me:

Low Tide, Summer 2021

Summer, Early Morning, 2023

Stan and Marlene, hand in hand,
Strolled by the River Wyre's wide expanse.
For years they walked this peaceful strand,
Drawn back time and time again by its trance.

The tide flows in, gentle and slow,
Softly lapping against the mud.
The sun reflects with a golden glow,
No escape when it's time to flood.

Stan, a wise man of years gone by,
Shares with Marlene stories of yore.
Of the legends that make the river sigh,
Tales of mermaids and knights in armour.

Marlene listens with a smile on her face,
As he speaks of the river's stories and lore.
She loves that the river has a special place,
In their hearts, as well as their history's store.

As they turn once more and head for home,
Stan and Marlene pause for one last view.
Of the river that brought them to this zone,
Of calming nature and memories true.
A D Winter, 2023
